Sharon, Arafat To Star In Sitcom; Conflict To Be Resolved In Half-Hour

Jerusalem – In an unexpected and staggering breakthrough for the peace process, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and PLO President Yassir Arafat agreed to produce a special half-hour sitcom for NBC, to air in the timeslot normally reserved for Friends. In the single-episode show, the two leaders will play themselves, and in a series of absurdly angsty conversations mixed with hilarious antics, will discuss and resolve the Arab – Israeli conflict.

“All problems in American television are fixed by the end of the show – maybe at the end of the next episode, if it’s a REALLY big problem,” said Arafat from his besieged headquarters. “I figure – hey, maybe what we really need to end the violence and stagnation isn’t more American involvement, but a guest appearance by Tom Selleck! So I called Ariel.”

“It just might work,” said Sharon. “Look what television has done for the Jewish people: Seinfeld! Elaine! George! Kramer! They had a show about nothing, and it was great! We’re going to have a show about many things, really important things! Ours will be terrific! A few schicksa jokes, a few new settlements, a few returned occupied areas, and Arafat accidently but hilariously and conveniently falling down some stairs!”

The show is tentatively titled “the sharon-arafat show,” so far going uncapitalized because neither leader can get the other to agree where the capital should be.
